We are an official 501c3 non profit organization, not to be confused with any other local rescue. Mitchell Animal Rescue does NOT yet have a facility. We rely on foster homes to help with our rescued animals. We are always in need of foster homes, especially for cats and large dogs, and volunteers to help at our events. If you're interested, let us know. 605-770-2170. In 2009, Mitchell Animal Rescue helped save the lives of almost 250 pets! We rely solely on donations. Please use the button above to donate to help the homeless pets we are trying to save. We are a 501c3 non-profit so your donation is deductible. Thank you to all who have donated to help us keep saving animals lives! Without all of you, we couldn't keep going. Mitchell Animal Rescue T-shirts are now available at The Pet Stop, a privately owned and operated pet supply store. Information will be available on the SNIP program and other services provided by Mitchell Animal Rescue. If you would like to buy a ![]() Check out this great program! Help stomp out hunger! WANTED: Person with drive and confidence to head up a capital fund campaign. We would like to build our own facility, but it will take a great amount of money. With few steady volunteers, we find ourselves so busy with day to day operations that we don't have the time needed to dedicate to the campaign. If you or someone you know is interested in seeing a new community friendly shelter in this area, please let us know. WANTED: Drivers to take up to 4 cats or 4 dogs to Globe University in Sioux Falls when needed. Our next scheduled trip will be in August. If interested, it's an easy, but very necessary way to help us out. Call 605-770-2017 or email mitchellanimalrescue@yahoo.com We, Mitchell Animal Rescue, want to thank all of our supporters and those of you who have donated blankets, towels, supplies, food, money and anything else to our cause over the past year and a half. A special thank you goes out to one very generous anonymous donor, you know who you are. Because of this generous donation, we decided to kick off our capital fund campaign with the proceeds from flea market. This donation was the catalyst that got us going in this direction. THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU! A big thank you to all of you who have adopted animals from Mitchell's Animal Shelter and/or Mitchell Animal Rescue. We couldn't do what we do without you. Mitchell Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization that recently celebrated its one year anniversary. Unfortunately, with tough economic times and multiple puppy and kitten births, we are rescuing more pets than expected. MAR does not have a shelter and we rely on volunteers to open their homes to rescued pets. If you would like to foster a rescued pet, please let us know.
We are willing to trap feral cats if you know of any farmers that would like cats for mousers. Contact us either by email or phone.
Mitchell has a leash law that requires ALL pets to be on a leash when off your personal property. With the weather improving, it is sometimes tempting to let your pet out to do his or her business without a leash because he or she has never left your property before. It only takes one time and in the blink of an eye they are gone. Not only does this violate the leash law, but it is NOT SAFE for your pet. They don't know to stay off the streets or to avoid cars or other animals. PLEASE keep your pets on a leash or in a fenced in yard, not only for their safety, but to prevent unwanted litters. Please be responsible pet owners - think of them when you let them out the door. SNIP is a program to assist needy people with the expense of spaying or neutering their pets. To see if you qualify, request an application by emailing us at mitchellanimalrescue@yahoo.com or calling Kathie at 999-2524
Performance Pet Products has generously donated several pallets of canned dog and cat food to our cause. We have started a food bank and the Salvation Army will give this pet food to needy people that need help feeding their pets. Same restrictions will apply to the pet food bank as do to the food pantry. If you apply and qualify for the SNIP program, you will also qualify for pet food. You can also pick up pet food at the James Valley Community Center, 300 E 1st, Mitchell, SD.
